The 2011 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach broke its previous attendance
record, drawing 50,000 to the five-day fair. The long-standing Art Miami
fair, which changed its schedule to coincide with Art Basel several years

Thanks in part to a big jump in Brazilian visitors, tourism in Florida for
the third quarter of 2011 increased more than 5 percent compared to the
previous year. Visit Florida, the state's tourism marketing corporation,
released preliminary estimates Wednesday that showed 20.4 million people
visited the state between July and September. That's a 5.1 percent increase
from the same time in 2010. Domestic visitor numbers increased 3.4 percent
to 17.5 million. The number of Canadians traveling to Florida was up 4.4
percent to 420,000 and overseas visitors leaped 18.7 percent to 2.5 million.
Brazil is now the top overseas market in visitors and spending, overtaking
the United Kingdom. The number of Brazilian visitors in the third quarter
was 371,000, a 38 percent increase over 2010; spending increased 56 percent
to more than $575 million. Tourism-related employment increased 5.4 percent
compared to the same time in 2010, with more than a million jobs in the

previous month with pending sales flat in Miami-Dade County, and up in
Broward County. In Broward, October pending sales rose 7 percent. In
